Jim's Favorite Pet Store in Napa Valley: Fideaux

This store not only sells pet treats, it IS a treat, an original shop that makes you chuckle out loud. Think of it as Eddy Bauer for dogs and cats — outfitters for the four-legged. Fideaux has knapsacks (they look like saddlebags) and life jackets for your pooch, Fido futons (100% washable), lambs' wool dog beds, bowls, leashes and collars with — you guessed it! — wine motifs. The most fun you can have in St. Helena, even if you don't own a cat or dog!

Of special merit are the whimsical, three-dimensional clocks, made out of papier-mâché and dryer lint (!) that remind us of our cherished four-legged friends. Handmade by artist F.B. Fogg, these clocks have a pendulum that swings — it may resemble Rover's tongue grasping a tennis ball, or it may be Tabby's tongue gripping a mouse. If you bring a photo of your own pet to Fideaux the artist will customize a ticking look-alike that doesn't have to be fed or walked.

Fideaux, 1312 Main St. St. Helena. 967-9935
