There's a story going 'round that Yountville, the tiny burg that straddles the emotional mid-point of Napa Valley, has the highest premium restaurant saturation per capita in America. The tiny hamlet is the showplace for The French Laundry, Bouchon, Bistro Jeanty, Gordon's and Napa Valley Grille.
And if you thought that was a lot, think again; Philippe Jeanty will open a second, new restaurant this fall and chef Bob Hurley, formerly at Napa Valley Grille, has opened his own eponymous eatery, Hurley's.
Here's what we love about Hurley's: the tasty luncheon menu, enjoyed en plein air on a sun-drenched patio with tiny tables and 44 seats. Outdoor dining doesn't get more pleasant.
Be sure to try the olive oil-poached tuna "pan bagnat," which presents a tasty mound of tuna, basil, tomato and sliced egg on a tasty bun. We also recommend the sliced Moroccan roasted lamb on house pita and the grilled Niman Ranch burger.
If the weather cools off, or if you wish to dine under the stars, heaters will be offered, as will umbrellas to shelter you from that persistent Napa Valley hardship - six to eight months of sun, sweet sun. Oh, the hardship… but someone has to sit on this patio and make the passersby feel jealous. Might as well be you.
Hurley's Restaurant & Bar, 6518 Washington St., Yountville. 707-944-2345.
