Hands down, it's Gordon's Cafe and Wine Bar in "beautiful downtown Yountville." And we're not alone in our praise. The Napa Valley Register has, for two years running, picked Gordon's as its FAVORITE Breakfast location in Napa Valley. We couldn't agree more.
Partly, it's the location: an 1876 general store converted into the valley's most charming communal dining room. Swirling ceiling fans and two communal tables set the mood in this small, 50-seat eatery.
Mostly it's the fare: Breakfast options are frustrating because EVERYTHING IS SO GOOD. The oatmeal is made from scratch using baby organic oats; the bacon served with the organic egg omelet comes from Hobbs and is apple wood-smoked, free of nitrates and preservatives, filled with f-l-a-v-o-r. When was the last time you hard anyone say that about bacon?
We love the home-baked goodies at breakfast - stunning scones, indescribable muffins, and on weekends, don't miss Sally's Mother's Sticky Buns. Alone worth a detour to Yountville.
But the general winner of the breakfast bakery case is Sally's Pecan Sour Cream Coffee Cake, which many regulars phone ahead to order, to ensure that Sally (Gordon) doesn't sell out before they get to the store-cum-eatery.
Don't forget the endless refills of Equator brand coffee, great house-made espressos and cappuccinos, and a stack of the day's just-delivered New York Times. What more could one ask for breakfast?
